We are approaching a time where my innermost dreams are no longer the stuff of fantasy - they can be plucked, ripe, from any tree. Crew-serving allied weapons feels just as incredible as I hoped, and you've got a couple options for it. When I play with the two other people I often play with, at our current level, we tend to have two autocannons and a recoilless, which is the one I have in the strip. I really, really like the autocannon because it's just sort of a Swiss Army Knife for problem solving, particularly if that problem is shaped like the enemies of the blue-green jewel we all serve.
Ultimately I think they may have to tamp down the Railgun, which these days is just sort of the obvious choice. Railguns are what you think they are - infantry-portable linear motors that deliver ferromagnetic slugs - figure B on the schematic, labeled "freedom" in capital letters - and they're one trick that both bugs and bots hate. Wear one of those with a backpack that is literally a forcefield, or a backpack that is an autonomous combat drone whose face is a laser, and you have the makings of what we might call Main Character Syndrome. The path I'm climbing up to that is full of whacked out sidegrades and choices that feel really, really good. The thing I have to remember is that this initial package of stratagems is nowhere near what we end up with. There's a Neal Patrick Harris type figure beavering away on new shit like mech suits and tanks. New equilibria will be formed constantly.
There's a point just under this level of community activity that represents both full servers and no additional costs, but something happened when we stopped the Terminids in the Galactic East and Super Earth turned its baleful eye on the Automotons. You gotta understand the unlikely, weirdo levels of penetration this thing has bored down into: partly because it's so memeable, being itself based on a meme, people are taking these fronts "personally." It's jumped containment and Helldivers on every form of media are lamenting or encouraging or generally just… roleplaying on main. This is all a very long-winded way of saying Remember Malevalon Creek.
