I like Abandonware as an aesthetic, as another strange cubby online to spelunk, but I don't think "Abandonware" is a legal term and my suspicion is that there's no meaningful way to distinguish it from piracy. I'm not telling you what to do - I mean, the law kinda is, but I am no agent of the law. The key is that you gotta get your rhetorical ducks in a row so that when you're face to face with one of the stretched, drumhead-taut faces that represents the machine you're able to deploy a compelling performance. Right? Like my friend Mike.
My brief contribution to this effort was a little time spent mourning Bizarre Creations, an all-time great, by playing just a little Blur. Blur is a game that I think only me and my friends liked. Essentially Mario Kart with a fun single player campaign and a driving model just this side of technical, it's failure seems to have destroyed the studio - the one that made The Club, another game only me and my friends like, in that case I think just me and Kiko. But also Geometry Wars, Project Gotham… Crazy expertise that has since gone in a couple directions, but they spent the company making creative decisions that I felt were fundamentally correct and received the ultimate sanction. I'm choosing to remain mad, and the form it takes is shaking my tiny fist at the universe.
#Fridabe has returned, and at around 10am PST, Dabe will be cranking up the l'strimm - a strimm you can watch here. He used to love rockin' the original Hades, and now that he's got a whole 'nother Hades - specifically, Hades II - he's gonna start collecting silver and crafting weapons, probably in that order. Right? Seems like it would be harder the other way. See you there!
(CW)TB out.
