I recall Etsy being a realm where one could get a handmade thingy, or even a doodad. Brenna had a store on there for a while; I would link it, but it eventually got so demoralizing it was removed. She is a seamstress with decades of experience, having worked professionally in a variety of theatres, but the dynamics of that place are such that trying to make money on handmade goods charging what they were actually worth was essentially impossible. It was like operating a sweatshop where you are the cruel man on a mezzanine, looking down at your only employee on the shopfloor, who is also yourself.
I was surprised to learn how robust their wargaming selections were; Etsy wouldn't be the first place I'd look for that kind of shit, but it's certainly of a piece with handmade. And there's still people making it work, somehow. I'm not saying there isn't good stuff, but… there's also incredibly weird shit that I am surprised you can sell. For example, did you know that you can get a 15D Auric Cleansing? I bet everybody who got the 14D Auric Cleansing feels like a real asshole right now. And, should you have need of it, you can secure a Negativity Releasing Spell which is currently on sale. Both this and the other one are available as digital downloads, which seems very Shadowrun.
When legalization hit Washington, it occurred to me that we had entered an era where there might be a sale on… like, drugs. That seemed strange already. The idea that there might be a sale on spells is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.
Presented as a clarification of their policy, you will not be surprised to learn that what it primarily clarifies is that becoming a publicly traded company invariably means entering into strange communion with unbound demons. Titled "How Etsy Is Protecting Creativity and Self-Expression" and accompanied by a homespun image that says "Keep Commerce Human," it includes a link to another page where they say that there's serious questions about the human and climate impacts of models but also "idk, tbh." It's all just weird shit. If you've ever been here before, you won't have to wonder very hard how we feel about it.
No #Fridabe stream today because he is working on something you want very badly, and we would like you to have it! We will be back streamin' soon, with something very delicious in tow - something people have been asking me about for literal years.
(CW)TB out.
