When I pay for a subscription to PC Gamer, I get lots of physical stuff that is convenient and glossy and stuff, which therefore costs money to print and assemble and ship and stock and on and on. And it's still pretty cheap. Internet sites were always free because they took such a small amount of resources to deliver, and because they could easily plop down ads that were seen a million times a day and immediately sent the interested consumer to the consumables.
