Here are some quick thoughts about the games I've been playing recently:
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands: I've devoted the last two nights to Prince and each night it has been almost impossible for me to put the controller down and go to bed. The puzzles are clever, the level design is inspired and the gameplay is a fucking blast. It simply does not get much better in my book. Prince is like a Roller Coaster. It's not super long but the entire time you're on it your having fun.
Red Dead Redemption: If Prince is a roller coaster then Red Dead is an amusement park. There's some fun stuff to do but you spend a lot of time walking around and eventually you just want to go home. I played it for a couple of days and really enjoyed my time in the world but I feel like I might have the same problem with Red Dead now that I always had with GTA. That is: It is fun to drive around and take a few missions but then I get bored. I'm just not a fan of sandbox style games I guess. I like screwing around in them for a few hours and then I get tired of it. It is an amazing game and I can certainly see the right sort of gamer spending a lot of time investigating it. I just need a more directed experience I guess.
Mario Galaxy: I was lucky enough to get this early and Kara and I have a sack full of stars already. It might just be me but this game feels much harder than the first. The Co-Star mode that allows a second player to help out, seems almost necessary to me. There is a feeling you get when you play a Mario game that is hard to describe. It's just very...pure. Like this is what video games are about. It just feels good to play them and Mario Galaxy 2 is no exception
