Comic Jumper is a new game coming out from the guys at Twisted Pixel. We had a chance to play it before PAX and I really liked the concept of a character who jumps into different comic book genres. Each time he lands in a new comic, the style of the artwork changes and it’s done really well.
They approached us about doing a comic project for the game and we said yes so long as we could choose the genre. I was really into comic books back in the early 90’s and I thought it would be a lot of fun to go back and draw in that style. The result was a project heavily inspired by one Mr. Rob Liefeld. Obviously you can look back on that stuff now and it’s pretty silly but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to being heavily inspired by it at the time. Rob may not have had the best grasp of anatomy, storytelling, perspective, or composition but his shit was fucking dynamic and as a young man I ate it up.
Going back and drawing in that style was super fun and I think the result is cool. It was just a two page project so I did a cover and one page from an imaginary early 90’s Comic Jumper comic book:
We’re actually giving away a brand new Xbox emblazoned with my artwork.
I only have one of these bad boys to give away so this is a “many will enter few will win” situation. In order to win this I’d like for you to send me a picture of yourself in your best Rob Liefeld pose. I’ll take a look at all of them and choose a winner on Friday. That means you have until Thursday 9/30 night at 12:00am pacific time to get me your photo.
Please put "Comic Jumper Contest" in the subject and try and keep your photos to a reasonable size. I’ll choose one winner and probably put up a gallery with some of the best shots. Oh and no Photoshopping.
