People have been asking me what I thought of this book for a while. Minor spoilers ahead I guess.
I loved The Name of The Wind so much that I actually bought it as a Christmas present for most of the people in my family. From the minute I finished it I was hungry for the next book in the series to come out.
I was lucky enough to get an early copy since we happen to know Patrick but even though I got the book back in March, I just finished it a few days ago. The Wise Man’s Fear is a great book and a satisfying continuation of the story but I gotta say the pacing of it is a bit slow for my taste. The reason it took me so long to read isn’t that the book is about a million pages long, it’s that I read a bunch of other books while I was reading this one. I needed to take breaks but I never lost my interest and so I kept coming back to The Wise Man’s Fear.
I love Kvothe the most when he is out slaying bandits and being rad. The few times that happens in the new book had me literally shouting out loud as I read but I could have done with a lot more. Tycho loves knowing how much money Kvothe has and likes reading pages of Sympathy theory. I want action and while all the sexing in this book was cool, that’s not the sort of action I’m after. I still loved it though and I’ve been dying to draw Kvothe since the first book came out. I had intended the art to be funny but at some point I realised I was just drawing my own sexy Kvothe fan art like the shit I make fun of on DeviantArt. Sorry about that.
So while I was reading The Wise Man’s Fear I also read a few other books:
Dreadnaught - Fun steam punk/alternate history book set during an American civil war that never ended.
The Hunger Games - I think I would have liked this book if I was a girl. I’m not a girl though and so it just made me mad.
Echo - Jack McDevitt is one of my all time favorite authors. His books almost always have spaceships AND alien planets on the cover. He writes the kind of Sci-Fi I love.
The City & The City - I got about half way through this book and gave up. I just don’t understand these fucking cities. His next book should be called “I’m Smarter Than You” and he can just take a shit inside it.
