The Penny Arcade iRacing league continues to grow. We’ve got just over 120 drivers now and our weekly races have been packed. Each week it’s a different car to race and so far the selections have been really fun. Last week we raced the Mazda MX-5 at Lime Rock which I was actually sort of familiar with.
Tonight we’re racing the Legends Ford 34 coupe which was brand new to me.
The league has open practices during the week and I’ve attended a couple of those. I’m still not feeling super confident going into tonight’s race though. It’s going to be 50 laps and from what I understand the tires will start to give out around lap 30 so those last 20 are gonna be interesting.
Just like always, I’ll be streaming tonight’s race. The Pit Crew will open up over on Twitch around 8pm PST this evening. These league races are always a good time but some folks go the extra mile when it comes to their car’s livery. I’ve seen a few already in practice and you guys are in for a real treat.
If you’d rather join us on the track you can do that as well. Just find the Penny Arcade league in the iRacing league directory and send us a request. All drivers are welcome regardless of your license or familiarity with the game. We have a very novice friendly group.
I like trying out other sims and so I picked up Automobalista 2 yesterday. This is a really interesting sim because at its core it really focuses on Brazilian motorsports. It’s packed with cars and tracks I’m not familiar with but I think that’s a strong selling point. The actual driving feels very physical and I get a great sense of connection between the car and the track. It’s also a beautiful game with some really stunning real time weather. It’s a bit rough around the edges still, they had two hot fix patches that dropped yesterday that helped me a great deal. The community around a sim is also important and this is a pretty small game right now. Looking for multiplayer races yesterday I didn’t see a lot of folks playing. With that said, they do have a strong AI race option that I’ve been having a lot of fun with. I’m not sure it’s a must buy but I think it’s pretty cool. I’d be happy to show it off on a racing stream later this week, if people would like to see it in action.
Tycho is out of town for a bit so our Friday Motorsport Manager stream is on pause. I’m still gonna fill that 2-4 time slot with racing action but I’ll be at the wheel instead of floating above it all. So you can come manage my motorsport tomorrow afternoon!
