This isn't an affiliate link or anything, I think it's just the best example of what I'm talking about: Gundam Converge is a line of super-deformed Gundam models that are small and cute. They're collectible figurines essentially, impulse buys, which is strongly reinforced by the fact that they include literal candy in the box.
Gabe discovered this line - which has something like twenty full sets now - but he came to it through an oblique angle, as both a neophyte and a foreigner to Japan. So, he sought specific models thinking it was similar to his other incursions into the space, and found warped collector pricing first. Then he discovered that these things are a certain amount of yen, a couple thousand or so, which seems like a lot of something, but it definitely fucking isn't. Individually these things are about the price of a large boba tea. And they aren't blind boxes! But if you want a small version of a specific Gundam you've built so that you can endlessly reiterate the Don't Talk To Me Or My Son meme it's going to expose you to the chaos winds of the aftermarket. Ultimately, what Gabir determined was that even with shipping, a case is probably correct if you like them at all. They're meant to be silly fun and in the actual world, they're priced that way.
Today, GOLGOLFA returns - in a radical new field of battle. For somebody who has played a hundred and thirty hours of electronic golf in the past this year, Mario Golf is kind of a wild switch. Our version of PGA Tour 2k21 is a hybrid of a couple different rulesets and levels of mechanical sophistication we've chosen because it makes for a good 2v2 battle - amateur swings, but none of the putting assistance that level offers. In comparison, Mario Golf is Mario Golf; it's a specific thing, and while it might have relatively silly stuff like lightning clouds or Thwomps it also has much more rigorous interpretations of the lie. That's in addition to modes like Speed or Battle Golf that are varying shades of heretical. Come check it out with literal screenwriter Gary Whitta, Gabir Motors General Manager Gabir Liel, and myself as we do battle against not only the course but each other at 2pm PDT.
