Something I've always held as an article of faith is that life is not a purely local phenomenon. Its origins in my mind are strange, but the fundamentals have been retained: the church I went to as a young person told me that telescopes had recently identified the Gates of Heaven approaching the Earth.
If you're in middle school or whatever, this kinda puts things on a timeline.
I was pretty scared of it, also. I couldn't see it with the naked eye obviously because it was so far away, but eventually I would, and everyone would, and surely faith would approach one hundred percent under these circumstances. Human beings, broadly writ, would be forced to "get right" or "get left" beneath the baleful glint of that jeweled aperture, especially the bully from gym who stole my Walkman. But it did also situate my religious conception out in the cosmos, shifted it out a bit, where I could consider that there were other peoples who had their own "bible." Were we all loved equally? Had we done better, or worse, striving against the same edicts? Were there worlds who hadn't needed the death of Christ to cleanse them?
I lost some of the other portions of the thesis as I got older, but not the faith that there existed alien beings that would be wholly inscrutable to us. So if you tell me there's something blinking in the void at regular intervals, my first thought goes to something like another civilization's version of our own interstellar probes. Of course it's going to end up being something I don't give a shit about, but it was fun to lie awake and vibrate with the possibilities.
Dabe ("Durrty Dwob") and I will be boarding the Storybook Brawl train ("woo woo") from 10am to 2pm today, come hang out - we still have a few codes to give away, and I think the plan is to battle the channel for them in the back half of the stream.
This isn't a sponsored stream, but we will be doing one soon! Literally next week! Look!
We wish, more than anything, that you'll tune in to https://t.co/A9BCAQYM4H next week for two special #sponsored @StorybookBrawl streams! @TychoBrahe and @Dabe will be joined by some special guests from the Storybook Brawl team on February 1st and 2nd from 2-5pm PT. pic.twitter.com/GJelr5VbQT

We'll be joined by the literal devs in our studio to both learn the basics and then get into the deep, dark of the builds that can succeed in the new patch, which has already confounded our existing "pro strats." Come say hi!
(CW)TB out.
