24 years ago today Jerry and I Started Penny Arcade from apartment 26 in Spokane Wa. I managed to take a picture of the old place using Google Street View and the only thing missing from when we lived there was the couch we left on the porch that was soaked in cat urine.
I was asked on Twitter about the origin of Gabe and Tycho’s design. After rummaging around in the garage I managed to find this drawing of Sam from 1998. This was the comic book character I was drawing at the time. A young man whose mortal body was being used as a prison for a rebellious angel. When it came time to make Gabe I obviously used Sam here as inspiration. I didn't notice it until later but he's actually wearing the Tycho shirt here as well.
Thank you for supporting us all these years and for giving me a career and life I could never have imagined. I love drawing These assholes just as much today as I did back in 1998 and I hope I can keep doing it for years to come.
