Need for Speed Unbound just got a big update that among other things added a new cooperative multiplayer event called “Linkups”. Turns out working with other drivers is just as much fun as racing against them!
If you are unfamiliar with Unbound, the game has two main modes. There is a single player story and a multiplayer free roam mode that lets you join a server with a bunch of other people. You can drive around collecting goodies and doing challenges or you can go head to head against other people in races. The new Linkup mode is fun because like I said, it adds a coop option.
When one of these events starts, a large section of the map gets highlighted in green and while you're in it you can see a list of challenges. These will be things like “drift through barrels”, “stay above 80 mph”, "take jumps” and all kinds of other fun stuff and each one has a bar asociated with it. Anyone currently in the zone can contribute to completing the challenges and help build up the bar. Once the tasks are done a new phase begins with new challenges. There are four of these phases and each one is timed so you’ll need to work together. It’s worth noting that the cops are on your ass this entire time and once a Linkup is over they swarm the place and all the racers need to escape to keep their earnings. It’s a blast, especially when challenges ask you to do stuff like draft other drivers or orchestrate ridiculously fast near misses.
I’m playing on PS5 but Unbound is about to hit Game Pass. If you’re a subscriber, don’t skip this one!
