Lorcana game seems really cool. The app is also handy, and is a great way to look at all this fucking rad art in the first set and get your head around some of the concepts with its built-in rulebook. But it seems like they no make enough card :(((
Like Keyforge, Lorcana has charted a different course in a space more or less defined by Richard Garfield in 1993. Instead of trying to reduce your opponent's HP pool, your "creatures" are essentially mining a resource. Creatures have "strength" and "health" like you'd expect, but they have a completely other stat that determines how much of this resource - "lore," in the parlance - they can get out of the opponent. This is incredibly hot shit, and a fascinating angle to create balanced cards, and I wish that it had launched with a digital edition so I could actually play it.
We spent a while getting really mad at an image that had been passed around, it had all the official livery of Lorcana, and it had these legitimately crazy prices on it that made me think "uh… ok." But it was just from some local store, and it had been cropped in a way to make it seem like it was from Ravensburger or Disney. It took about twenty minutes all told to peel the film of false consciousness the community had generated to find out it was a local promotion from a single New Jersey store. There is plenty to be disappointed by in terms of the launch - most boosters I see are priced at three times MSRP, before we even get to starters or anything else. The CEO had to come out and talk on it. I don't require any additional help to be unhappy; active misinformation for clout about toys makes me want dig a hole and die in it. Or live! The only thing I know for sure is that a hole is gonna be involved.
I hope it's not a Star Wars: Destiny situation, ultimately - where maybe the best card game in a decade was so stymied by production issues that… Well, that I have to put a link to it in this paragraph so you even know what it is. Everyone should know what it is. You should be playing a round of Star Wars: Destiny while reading this on your phone. You should be tripping on an errant die at the top of the stairs! Alas.
(CW)TB out.
