I celebrated another birthday yesterday that secured my 46th year on this earth. I spent the day playing games! Here’s a quick breakdown of what I’m currently putting my gaming hours into:
Titanfall 2 got a patch last week that has revitalized the game online. I hadn’t played in years but jumped back in and have not been able to stop. I don’t understand how a 7 year old game still looks and plays this well. Everytime I come back to it I am blown away at how great the shooting feels whether you’re a Pilot or a Titan. They also compliment each other so well! As a Pilot, I love trying to attack Titans and steal their batteries while avoiding the massive weapons. As a Titan, nothing feels better than shooting a Pilot with a gun meant for a tank and watching him turn to mist. My only fear is that EA has revitalized TitanFall 2 only to promote some upcoming Apex Legends character or event. To me, Apex legends is like making Chocolate Chip cookies without the Chocolate chips. Call me when/if they add Titans.

My kids asked if we could start another family Valheim server and so I started one up last weekend. We are starting from scratch and once again my kids are sailing around the world while Kara and I bang rocks together. Everyone seems to play the game in a different way which I think is fascinating. Gabe and Noah are determined to explore and conquer the map. Kara just wants to tend her massive tiered gardens and cook delicious food for everyone. I love to harvest materials while watching a movie and build cool structures. The fact that each of these gameplay loops in the game is rewarding enough to entertain each of us is a testament to its brilliant design.
Jerry asked me the other day why Kara and I still play Farlight 84 every day. “Is it really that good?” he wanted to know. I invited him to join us for a few rounds and he saw immediately why we like it so much. The guns feel great and the whole thing just makes sense. It’s a Battle Royale thing with hero characters that have unique powers. The idea is nothing crazy or new but the execution is really solid.
One of the gifts I got for my birthday was a pair of “motorsport shoes”. Up until now I have done all my sim racing in socks but I have to say the shoes are really cool. They are very narrow and have a special pad on the back heel to help support your feet while on the pedals. It also just adds to the realism since I don’t drive a real car in my socks. It just felt better and while I cannot confirm anything I believe they added a couple MPH to the car. The game also gave me a new car for my Birthday!

I also built some legos and got McDonalds for breakfast so overall it was a great day! Thanks to everyone who took time to wish me a happy birthday yesterday. I hope everyone had a great Christmas in September!
