Sometimes in order to get around the flagrant theft inherent in a product like Midjourney, an AI enthusiast will suggest that an artist should train their own AI using their own work. This way the AI could make art for them you see, freeing them up to do other things. This shows an incredible lack of understanding when it comes to art. What artists want to do is make art. This is like having an AI eat fresh cookies for you or smell a flower. We enjoy making art. We like to draw and create things. You are trying to get rid of the good part you idiots! Use AI to remove the drudgery from our lives, not the joy.
I saw a video of an AI engineer drawing a shitty face that the AI in real time turned into a sort of anime painting. They scribbled some lines on the face and the AI adjusted the painting to include a well rendered beard. This technology they said was the result of wanting more control over the final result of the AI art rather than the crapshoot prompts can be. Let that sink in for a second.
You know what would give you a lot of control over the finished product? Learning to fucking draw. This is like someone playing Rock Band thinking they are making music. Instead of learning a skill these people would rather offload their creative potential into a machine never to be investigated. It's not noble or innovative to give up yet that's what AI art is. Congratulations you suck and refuse to learn.
Meanwhile all I want to do every day recently is draw. This Cricut machine is so much fun I’ve been making all kinds of stuff from papercraft dice to sparkly stickers. You can follow along with my progress over on my Instagram.
I’m also making a video game with my son Gabe that has its very own Steam page now. It’s been so much fun designing this game together and creating the artwork for it. The goal was to see what we could accomplish while he was on break from Digipen and I think it’s coming along really well. Wheel Saint Hellride is a top down rogue-like inspired by Vampire Survivors. We’ve both been using this project to learn a lot of new stuff and as a Dad, getting to spend this much time with your 19 year old is pretty special.
Maybe next they can make an AI that spends quality time with my son for me.
