There are some great deals on Need for Speed games during the Steam Spring sale. They are all either 90% or 95% off! If you’re looking for some arcade racing action there are some great options here. I’ll share the ones I’ve been playing lately.
This is the latest entry in the series and I’ve got close to 80 hours in it. It’s a great game that is still getting updates today nearly 2 years after it came out. My favorite bits are the graffiti style special effects and the multiplayer Link Up events that are like Destiny public events but for cars.
When this game came out I was immediately put off by the live action cutscenes and didn’t spend much time with it. Going back to it now I have to say it’s probably the best looking NFS game to date. I am not sure how an almost 10 year old game still manages to look better than more modern incarnations but it does. The map is smaller but the city has so much personality and style! The car physics are a little weird in this one and the FMV is still pretty cringe as the kids would say but for 3 bucks I’m having a lot of fun.
This is a solid open world racing game with great car physics and a really cool day/night mechanic that lets you race during the day for cash and then race at night for rep. You’ll need both to upgrade your garage and cars. This is a good option for folks looking for a Need for Speed game to play on their Steam Deck.
This entry leans heavy into the old Burnout formula with big wrecks and destructible environments. After beating them in a race you literally need to crash into other cars to collect them. This one also works great on the Steam Deck!
