Even just on PC, the Fallout 4 "Next Gen" update has been pretty goof troop; those who owned it on GOG managed to pull the ripcord via its ability to rollback patches. It broke a bunch of mods, and it's important to note that while there are lots of mods that add content many of them just sand the edges off UI concerns or make the game easier and more fun to play. On Playstation, the whole affair gets stranger: it wasn't clear originally which versions of the game were entitled to the update, which I sorta just thought was free. I'm gonna paste a paragraph here from the IGN Article about it - try to parse this:
"Following last week’s launch of the update, PlayStation 5 owners were left confused over which subscription version of the game would qualify as getting the native next-gen patch for free when it, at least initially, wasn’t available for anyone. It turns out the free update is only for subscribers who have the game via the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog. That means everyone else has to pay for Fallout 4’s native PS5 version, if they didn't already own the game outright, including those who own Fallout 4 via the now defunct PS Plus Collection. Meanwhile, all Xbox Game Pass subscribers get Fallout 4 and the next-gen update for free."
The last part is whatever because Microsoft literally owns the company in question, so that's not a huge surprise. I have mostly been playing games on computers since Quarantine, that's just where all the stuff I wanted was, and now that Sony's dishing up to the PC I'm eating good. But there are some distinctions in the paragraph - PS Plus Collection versus PlayStation Plus Extra - that are artifacts of a period I didn't really live on the platform as a customer. But none of that sounds very much like a leisure activity! That all sounds weird as hell.
So it's a very Bethesda experience, is what I'm saying. If you've been around, everybody sorta knows this. I'm grabbing day one mods to make the inventory legible. You know? There's always been kind of a handshake deal between Bethesda and its massive community that there's kind of a baton pass that happens at launch. I'm not trying to be a dick, that's just the ritual and everybody gets it. We'll see how these newly minted acolytes from the show take it.
(CW)TB out.
