Gabriel, as his posts on the site reveal, has retreated into the games of youth - and now, having consumed them, has found himself bereft. I'm sorta in the same place; I've installed three comfort games over the last week. Last night I installed Paladins, which I unironically think is more fun than Overwatch. And I mean good, old Overwatch. Recent reviews are mixed, but I don't know why; in service games, communities use reviews to "communicate" with developers but I don't know precisely what they're "communicating" about because I only installed it yesterday.
There's a couple other games I return to.
Minion Masters: Three or four days ago, I got the itch. I think this is basically a horizontal Clash Royale, but I haven't played enough Clash Royale to know where the distinctions might lie. I have a hard time playing a game when virtually every commercial I see is for it; marketers, gaze upon my works and despair. It's a deckbuilder at core, never a problem, but cards are played into a real time arena where they become the equivalent of autobattler units. The flavor of the game is around having a bag of tricks you can play at the right times. I reinstalled this about a week ago, and one of the best things about it is that the game still makes sense whenever you come back in. They've added things here and there but just the right amount of things.
Vivid Knight: This is a private pleasure I reinstalled a week ago. I have met a total of one other person who has played it, and they're the one who told me about it. A roguelike autobattler - another one, yeah - it has that tasty Autochess/TFT/Dunderlords things where units can be combined with duplicates of themselves to be empowered. Units also have unique properties, and when you hit certain thresholds you start unlocking powerful global effects. Between "automatic" combat rounds, you collect gems you can use for a little more intention in what is typically a fully automated genre. You might not like the cutesy animu shit but the game under all that is mean as hell and I love it.
Those who once went into Hades are probably playing Hades 2 these days, and we are no different. We're going to hit some more Hades 2 when we start up the stream here for #Fridabe. He's also expressed some curiosity about Animal Well, which I endorse, because as much as I liked playing it solo on stream I think that's not the right way to play it.
(CW)TB out.
