Back when Next Generation was on television it was appointment viewing for me. I loved that series as a highschool kid. After that I caught a few episodes here and there of other Star Trek shows but that’s about it. Eventually Strange New worlds came around and sort of ignited my interest in all things Trek again. Currently We’re watching Voyager and Lower Decks here in the Krahulik house. We’re only in season 2 of both shows but I’m loving them. Voyager is a trip back in time to a different era in Television when Shows got seven seasons and almost thirty episodes per season. There’s some genuinely amazing Sci-Fi ideas in Voyager and with so many episodes you get plenty of time to get to know the characters.
Jerry and I have said that a good parody should also be an excellent version of the thing that’s being poked fun at. If you don’t have the skills to make a good Trek show then you don’t have the skills to make a good Trek parody. It's that simple. It’s like the saying “Never take criticism from someone you would not take advice from.” Lower Decks is the perfect example of this idea. It is both a hilarious roast of all things Star Trek, as well as an honest to God kick ass Trek show full of big ideas and awesome characters. I cannot recommend it enough. I pulled out my iPad while watching it this weekend and I had to make a little fan art.
LOWER DECKS! LOWER DECKS!
