Dragon Age: Inquisition
I’m obsessed with this game. I wasn’t a big fan of the previous games but something about this one has really hooked me. I’m about thirty hours in and I’m still opening up massive new zones to explore. In fact I’d say the game didn’t really “start” until about the 20 hour mark. I don’t want to spoil anything but the best advice I can give someone just starting is get out of the HInterlands! There was a mission on the map that said something like “close the rift forever” and to me that sounded like the end of the game. So I was avoiding doing it but in reality that mission should be called “start playing Dragon Age:Inquisition.”
Just to give you an idea of how crazy I am about DA, I actually picked up a tie in novel. I was at Barnes & Noble this weekend with the family and I ended up grabbing a copy of Dragon Age Asunder. I actually ran into a PA fan while in the fantasy book section. He recognized me and we started sharing book recommendations. I told him I was gonna try a tie in novel and he frowned. I agreed that these sorts of books tend to suck but I was gonna give it a shot anyway. I’m glad I did because this book is hot. I’m not finished with it yet but so far it’s been fantastic and it fits in really well with DA: Inquisition.
Game of Thrones: Episode One - Iron from Ice
My wife and I love the HBO series and so we decided to play this one together. Generally we play Telltale games separately on tablets and then compare our choices. I got this one on the PS4 though so we could sit on the couch and experience it like we do the regular show. We didn’t quite finish episode one last night but holy shit what an incredible start. I really don’t want to spoil anything in this game so I’ll just say that if you’re a fan of the show you have to check this out.
Tales from the Borderlands
I don’t play the Borderlands games. I know Tycho really likes them but I’ve never been able to get into one. I had no intention of playing Tales because I have no investment in that world. Tycho told me it was really funny though and so I decided to give it a try. Holy shit this game is hilarious. Within the first ten minutes I was laughing my ass off. The writing in this game is seriously good and the voice actors are killing it. Check it out even if you’re not a fan of the regular Borderlands games.
Destiny
I’m really excited for the Dark Below to come out next week. I’m not exactly sure how I’m going to play Dragon Age and Destiny but I’ll figure something out. I think I can probably get by on one or two hours of sleep a night and think of how much time we waste eating food.
When people ask me if I want a free set of headphones I always say yes. I recently got a set of Polk Striker ZX gaming headphones. I used them for a bit on the Xbox One and thought they were really comfortable but I just don’t play my Xbox very much. On the PS4 nothing I’ve tried has been better than the Gold Wireless headset. So even though the Polks are nice, I ended up not using them. I noticed that my son Gabe immediately grabbed them and started using them on his computer. He plays Minecraft for hours with his friends while they all chat via Skype. I also noticed that he was using the Polks with his iPod. When not playing Minecraft he likes to watch Youtube videos of people playing Minecraft and he always has these headphones on. My house is full of headphones many of which cost significantly more than the Polks and he has his pick of any of them. I asked why he liked these so much and he said they were the most comfortable and he liked the retractable mic. He liked that he could use them to chat with his friends and then put the mic away and listen to his music or watch videos. If you’re in the market for a new set of gaming headphones Polk might not be on your radar, but maybe it should be.
The Child’s Play dinner auction is tomorrow night and I just learned that there will be a replica of the Thorn handcannon from Destiny up for auction. I promise not to use my position as auctioneer to unfairly win it.
