The big bad monster in the Thornwatch print and play is the Swamp Choir. I thought I'd share some of the progress pics I took while I was drawing it.
Rodney said he was looking for a monster with multiple heads. So I went to work on the art side of it. I did a few different sketched but this is the one I really liked.
I cooked up this crazy four headed turtle and sent it over to Tycho. He came back with the name Swamp Choir and went to work on the lore while I started inking.
As I was inking Tycho kept sending me info about this thing. How the different heads sing songs to lure prey into its swamp. How the Ebb tainted tree on its back has poisoned the beast and driven it mad. I gotta say, he's a handy guy to have around.
When I'm coloring a big piece like this I usual start with the background. I work "up" towards the foreground elements.
Have you ever seen the inside of a turtle's mouth? It's fucked up! Don't Google it unless you are ready for the nightmares.
Here is the finished creature. This is the art we ended up using for the Swamp Choir momentum card as well as the token.
The Kickstarter is just about to wrap up but you still have a few days to get in on it. We've actually sweetened the deal and added an expansion to the offering. This will include a new set of Thornwatch classes to play as well as some new story boards. You can get all the details over on the KS page. Tycho and I were curious what happens if the Thornwatch become corrupted in someway. What if they are summoned through a tree that is infected with Ebb? It started with the Briarlock but we've got four other classes in the works that examine that same idea.
Thank you again for supporting the Kickstarter. It will end next week on Wedesday Oct. 5th. If you haven't checked it out, it's not too late! Also don't forget to tell your friends. We need all the help we can get to spread the word outside the normal PA audience.
There's also going to be a Thornwatch event at the MOX Boarding house in Bellevue this Sunday. You can get all the details right here. I sadly will not be able to make it because I'll be out of town, but plenty of folks from Lone Shark will be on hand to run you through the game.
