I feel bad sometimes because I talk about Game Pass a lot. I think you're supposed to angle to get paid or something, to ply the Influencer's Trade, and there may be nothing more suckerian than shilling in a context where no schillings have changed hands.
(Speaking of which: Schilling Hard Cider, let's talk).
Part of the reason I do it, though, is because for the first time in a long time it seems like they're doing stuff that makes sense. I don't feel like frosting it with irony so that I can appear above tawdry mortal affairs. A million years ago, when Steam was a writhing and larval God - just a formless shadow flexing in a largely opaque cocoon - I heard that they were considering a Subscription option to the platform. It never came to fruition. I mean, obviously. But there's very few people who could even attempt this, and they mostly didn't. This one reaches across two platforms and is equally conversant with Triple Ayy excess as it is with dark mind worms like World of Horror.
In addition, when every motherfucker has this Cloud Fantasy, they're the only ones that seem to recognize that buying streamed games a la carte is just… goofy, and buying them in channels or bundles without local options on PC or Console doesn't feel valuable. It works, as they've done it, like mortar - filling in the cracks of the fixed platforms. And because the cloud option is connected to the same user data the other ones are - because your saves live there also - now we're talking about something that actually makes sense.
(CW)TB out.
