I'm willing to accept that you don't actually know you're inventing "the television" when you undertake a project. I don't mean inventing the device we call a television - you should probably know some of the basics there - I mean, the cultural apparatus television represents. So I'm sympathetic to the idea that Twitch existed at an unpredictable crossroads and then became a place where culture occurs at scale.
Now, its demigods, its foibles, and its quirky, casual brutalities feed a perpetual whorl of media. In some ways it's an inevitable function of concentration - such a service, being the place where the preponderance of it is produced, was always going to reveal the concerns broadly inherent to it. I'm being as diplomatic as I can, here. There used to be another option, with some interesting, consciously manifested twists, and with a toolkit basically anyone could use to make their streams novel and interactive. Even if it didn't set the world on fire, simply existing in the world counterbalanced the worst impulses of the streaming space. It's not clear to me how you cajole the Last Man Standing to sit up straight in their throne. You know? I don't know how you incentivize such a mechanism when it already has everything it wants - everything there is to have.
You might have seen Gabir's post upon returning home, and in addition to that Lookouts page he posted in there we were also able to extract some horrors in comic form for you to feast on come Monday. But, as he is still exhausted from travel, I'm gonna stream some of this Storybook Brawl I read about today - it's a card-based auto-battler type game by a distributed, all-star team of people obsessed with the form. Ask your doctor is Streem is right for you, starting at 2pm PDT.
