Wait, it's the 27th? Yeesh. For the last two years time didn't move at all, and now two days have elapsed wholly without my knowledge. Well, I guess I did spend a lot of yesterday in the hospital, that haunted and sterile labyrinth, where time is a suggestion.
It wasn't for me this time, which is a nice change of pace I guess - since my throat surgery, I've been chewing chicken until it becomes a liquid. It was for my daughter Ronia, who had the temerity to play in the snow and twisted her ankle two feet out the door. When it didn't get better we ended up taking her to a minor emergency center where the posters strongly implied Christ Jesus would be a partner in our healing journey. He didn't end up on site, but if you think about it, he's been working remote for a while.
I played the ukulele in our little room until they came back with the information that they had no information. Maybe it was broken, maybe it wasn't! My family is kinda weird. There are some very normal things that feel like existential threats for us. One, very good trick we have is that when life becomes farcical, as it often does, we can recognize how ridiculous it is. This was in that continuum.
Now she's pity posting on my Twitter for clout, so… I think she's fine. We'll see how it feels in a couple days. In the meantime, I consider it an almost unmitigated good: I can set up Chip Theory Games' Cloudspire on the table in front of her - an unrelenting tabletop hybrid of MOBA and Tower Defense - and escape is difficult, if not impossible.
(CW)TB out.
