It's true enough that Grand Admiral Thrawn manifested in the cartoons, but the skip to live action - and eventually feature film - represents another vindication of the Expanded Universe. We made comic about it at the time, with a gentle and frankly honorable concession that not everything in the EU needed to be ascended into a new canon. But if you're familiar with the works, you're seeing the old stuff manifest ways that are just… worse. The main reason they haven't just utilized the profound resource they had in Mara Jade is because Filoni is too busy jacking off to his OCs.
All this stuff was just there, laying around, and since the only interesting things they've done are extracted from the Expanded Universe, the most legitimate theory for why they didn't just wrap their arms around it is probably correlated with the rampant wage theft they've perpetrated. They think if they just file off the serials and combine characters and change names they're going to get away with it, but their debt - figuratively and literally - to the writers that maintained the currency and vitality of the setting cannot be measured. Although they could start with what they owe.
Kathleen Kennedy recently said in an interview that they don't think in terms of trilogies anymore, and that tracks, because the new trilogy was incoherent. These motherfuckers can't hold six episodes of a show together, and when they do have something good they come in from the top and stuff it with their desperate franchise aspirations, killing the host.
Heading over to Dabe's for #Fridabe as soon as I finish the strip, he'll get things started on the stream around 10am with some more Hi-Fi Rush and then I'm gonna see if we can't try the new Metal: Hellsinger's newDLC, Dream of the Beast. It's got a couple amazing artists on there.
(CW)TB out.
