I know there’s lots of new games to play right now but for some reason none of them are especially calling to me. Instead I played NFS Unbound all weekend. I ended up building out my own class A car for the races yesterday and somehow stumbled onto a real monster. I honestly don’t know what I did but this Audi S5 Sportback was an absolute blast to drive and it destroyed my competition. Here’s a couple races I saved.
This first one is just a clean run through one of my favorite tracks.
One of the things I like about NFS Unbound is the Burst Nos system. If you watch the race you’ll see little yellow bars of Nos building up and getting spent. This is Burst Nos and you can earn it a number of different ways but it doesn’t last long. You can also tune your car to build Burst Nos in different ways. So for this build I am getting it through drifts and grip turns. The thing about this type of speed burst is that it throws your car forward in whatever direction you are pointing and basically says “fuck you” to physics. Earning this through driving and then spending it quickly to adjust your line though turns is essential and super fun.
This next race was a wild one. I was actually looking at my phone between races and completely missed the start. I’m telling you right now the end of this race will SHOCK you!
I’m not sure what is up with this car but if you’d like to take it for a spin yourself here’s a look at my build.
The only parts you can’t see here are the Auxiliary spots. I have Super Nitrous Grip and Super Nitrous Drift but you can swap those out depending on how you want to earn Nos.
I’ve seen some people complain about rammers in Unbound. I understand that getting hit sucks and I try not to race that way but I honestly don’t see that much intentional ramming. It does happen though, I mean the game even has a challenge to knock out other drivers during a race. So even if you don’t run into the occasional asshole you’re going to race against people trying to get the achievement at the very least. When it happens to me I just try to race around them. Most of the time they will ruin their own race trying to take you out if you just play it smart. If that doesn’t work I spend the rest of that race trying to destroy them.
I just need the developers over at Criterion to add the 1989 Ford Taurus SHO so that I can play out my Wheel Saint fantasies in game. They already have the Buick Grand National that the Beast drives!
I’m off to build myself an A+ ride for today’s races now. Each day they rotate to the next fastest class so the schedule looks like B, A, A+, S, S+. In my experience the races below S and S+ tend to be the most fun but it could be that I just don’t have the right car yet for those faster races.
That’s all I’ve got for today. Thank You for coming to my NFS Unbound Ted Talk.
