I'm not on Twitter anymore because it's a hive of scum and villainy so I'll be posting here on PA about PAX. The boys and I checked out a bunch of games today in the tabletop area and I wanted to share two of our favorites.
First up is Nekojima:
This game can be played cooperatively or competitively. You roll the dice to determine which two zones you need to connect via the included "power lines". Then you draw a colored cube from the bag that tells you what color of cable you need to use. Each color is a different length and within a given color the power lines have poles of varying heights. Power lines can't touch the poles, the ground or other lines so it gets crazy fast. Things get even more difficult when you draw a black cube which means you have to hang a cat from your line! It's fast fun and easy to learn.
Next is Quoridor Pac-Man edition.
This is a variation of the game Quoridor which asks you to get your pawn from your side of the board to your opponent's side via orthogonal movement across a simple grid. On your turn you can move one space or place one of your ten walls to block your opponent. It's a perfect fit for Pac-Man as you end up building maze during the game. This is another fast game that takes about a minute to learn.
Thank you to everyone who turned out for our 20 years of PAX birthday panel this afternoon. I'm still trying to recover from all the emotions. That was a really special event and I was blindsided by the trip down memory lane that left me crying on stage.
