If you started reading Penny Arcade back in the before times, you might remember I asked my then girlfriend to marry me in comic form. Sometimes it can be strange having what is in many ways my diary online for so long. This is one of the events I’m glad to have immortalized and today Kara and I celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary!
We discussed going someplace to celebrate but we realized all the stuff we like doing is in our home. So we’re staying in and playing games which honestly is basically what we did all weekend. Kara has found herself sucked back into a replay of Phoenix Rising and I cannot put down Unicorn Overlord. In fact we’ve all been playing Civ VI as a family a lot recently and this is my setup.
No reason I can’t do a couple turns between turns!
Jerry describes the strategic unit building part of Unicorn Overlord as “clock making” and I think he’s correct. I love getting way down into the weeds on each unit and configuring all their abilities, priorities and conditions then releasing them into a fight and watching them run. Building combos inside a unit with powers that trigger off each other can be super satisfying. When they all play out like you want them to, it does seem like clockwork. You will not be able to resist that one more turn!
The collectors edition of Unicorn Overlord came with an entire card game if you can believe that! It’s a deck builder with some cool ideas that uses a lot of art and elements from the video game. So far I’ve only read through the instructions and tried a few hands by myself. Once I rope some more people in and play it properly I’ll let you know how it is.
Speaking on Unicorns, My Unicorn stickers have sold out but you can still get your album and a few other designs if you’re looking to recreate the thrill of 80’s sticker collecting. The April sticker pack for Club PA members is getting made right now here in my office/sticker factory and includes The Gabe and Tycho Sayings Sheet as well as Spring CTS!

These will hit next month. Thanks to everyone who has supported my sticker craze so far, I’d love to see pics of your albums or wherever you placed your stickers!
